Abstract
1,201,308. Capacitor strain guage transducers. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. Aug.30, 1967 [Sept.12, 1966], No.40623/66. Heading G1N. A capacitative strain gauge which is applied to the surface of a body objected to strain comprises one or more electrodes 10, Figs. 1, 2, of which one may be constituted by the surface of the body, by a solid dielectric 12, using two or more electrodes, embedded in dielectric material they may be arranged in plane parallel to the surface 11 with adjacent sides overlapping Fig. 1, or in a single plane with adjacent sides spaced apart, Figs. 3-5 (not shown). A plurality of such electrodes may be used, Fig. 4, 5 (not shown), the electrodes have round or triangles cross sections, Fig. 5 (not shown) with alternative electrodes may be produced by printed circuit techniques, Fig. 8 (not shown). A two-electrode capacitor may be formed by winding two wires in a figure of eight, Fig. 6 (not shown). Flattening them out and embodying the arrangement in a dielectric material Fig. 7 (not shown). Alternatively the wire may be coated with insulating material and the dielectric omitted.
