Abstract

1,199,735. Laminates including carbon fibres. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. 23 April, 1968 [16 May, 1967], No. 22542/67. Heading BSN. [Also in Division F1] A laminate comprises a plurality of layers of carbon fibre reinforced resin material, the fibres of all the layers being parallel, and a plurality of layers of a material having substantially isotropic strength and stiffness properties as compared with those of the fibre reinforced resin layers. As shown, six layers 16a-16f, each of resin, reinforced with a parallel array of carbon fibres, are arranged in three pairs, the pairs being interleaved with four layers 17a-17d of steel. The laminated material may be formed into a compressor blade for a gas turbine engine, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), in which case the individual layers may be of differing lengths and/or widths. Some of the layers, for example, may extend further towards the tip of the blade than others, Fig. 2 (not shown).
