Abstract

1,195,432. Reciprocating motors. HORTSMAN CLIFFORD MAGNETICS Ltd. 10 April, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 22329/67. Heading H2A. [Also in Division G3] An assembly for an electromechanical oscillator, particularly for controlling a clock movement, comprises a mechanically oscillating non- rotating member 12 of elongated form, e.g. a tuning fork, which oscillates in a plane and is directly attached to an inertia weight 15 attached to one end of a spring 18, the other end of which has means, such as a support block 16, by which it is mounted on a base 11. The spring 18 will readily flex to allow movement of the inertia weight in one direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the member 12 and in another direction perpendicular to the said direction and parallel to the said plane. Thus vibration of the tuning fork due to centrifugal and other forces is not transmitted or transmitted only in attenuated form to the base 11, so that the frequency of the tuning fork is not substantially affected thereby. The support block 16 is preferably of vibration absorbing material such as nylon. In an alternative construction the tuning fork tines 30, 31 (Fig. 4, not shown) extend upwardly and the spring extends downwardly midway between them. In a further alternative the tuning fork is replaced by a compound reed oscillator as described in Specification 1,184,668, and in another construction a simple reed is used.
