A process for preparing sulphonamides A.SO 2 NR.CH 2 .CHR<SP>1</SP>.CONH 2 , wherein A is an aryl radical, a heterocyclic radical of the heteroaromatic type or an aliphatic radical (including substituted radicals) and the sulphonyl group is attached directly to a carbon of A; R is hydrogen, an aliphatic radical or -CH 2 CHR<SP>1</SP> CONH 2 and R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or methyl, comprises heating an appropriate sulphonamide with 1 to 2 moles of acrylamide or methacrylamide in the presence of an inert solvent and an effective amount of a basic catalyst having a pK b less than 10.
