Abstract

1,193,855. Angular bending. FRIED KRUPP G.m.b.H. 8 Sept., 1967 [10 Sept., 1966], No. 41132/67. Heading B3E. Apparatus for flanging the edge of a sheet metal blank, comprising a single flange forming die having a nose and an inclined surface and mechanism for moving the die in a curved path which is approximately elliptical and is part of the curve produced by a four bar linkage with an oscillating crank drive, to cause the edge of the sheet to be first bent by the nose through an angle of 90 degrees and then pressed by the inclined surface of the die to the desired flange angle. The apparatus comprises a housing 4 to which a clamping jaw 1 is fixed and a movable cover 5 on which a clamping jaw 2 is secured. Rotatably mounted in the housing are two shafts 8, 9, carrying eccentrics the centres of which are at 13 and 14 respectively. The shaft 8 is oscillated through 90 degrees by a crank-driven rack 11 which meshes with a pinion 12. Mounted on the eccen. tries is a coupling member which carries a bending tool 15, having a vertical surface 16, an overhanging nose 17 and an inclined surface 18. In the rest position, the flat upper surface 19 of the tool engages a screw fixed in the cover and lifts the cover and clamping jaw 2. A workpiece is inserted between the open jaws to an extent limited by the surface 16 and when the rack is reciprocated the tool 15 moves first downwardly and then to the left, along a curved path, Fig. 3, to bend the edge of a workpiece 3 first downwardly and then under itself, through an angle of at least 135 degrees.
