The process and apparatus of Specification 1183766 in which a step of compression crimping yarn is preceded by heating and drawing the yarn by passing it around at least two draw rollers at least one of which is heated is modified by omitting the drawing step and by pre-heating the yarn by passing it around just one heated roller (and its associated idler rollers).
