A high (e.g. 400 kv.) voltage cable is insulated with a web composed of polyethylene fibres, having a loss factor not exceeding 1 Î 10<SP>-3</SP> and being permeable to oil and gas. The tape may include cellulose fibres as a binder, and any suitable homopolyolefin or mixed polymer and/or copolymer of polyolefins may be used.
