Abstract

1,181,862. Liquid fuel burner. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. 5 July, 1968 [6 July, 1967], No. 31111/67. Heading F4T. A liquid fuel burner comprises a fuel/air mixing chamber 7 into which extends a duct 3 leading to a combustion chamber 1 and an air supply pipe 6 directed towards the duct, both the duct and the air supply pipe having flanges 4, 5 which extend radially from their adjacent ends to form baffles which divert part of a divergent fuel spray, supplied from a nozzle 8 mounted between the duct and the air supply pipe, from entrainment by an airstreampassing to the duct from the air supply pipe. In operation a fire spray of fuel is injected, from the nozzle 8, across the airstream and entrained and atomized thereby to form a combustible mixture which flows to the combustion chamber where the mixture is ignited by conventional means. Fuel diverted by the baffles falls to the bottom of the mixing chamber to pass to a collector tank 10 via a pipe 9. The nozzle may be either a simplex nozzle or a spill nozzle. In a modification a plurality of ducts, each with its own mixing chamber or a common mixing chamber, open into the combustion chamber.
