[Also in Division G1] Apparatus for weighing each of a succession of articles 11 comprises a conveyer 14 having pairs of spaced plates 16, 17 for feeding the articles to a weighing platform 38, each pair of plates comprising a front plate 17 and a back plate 16 between which an article is disposed, the front plate 17 being movable relative to the back plate 16 so as to allow the article to be accelerated away from the back plate 16 during the passage of that article over the weighing platform 38. As shown, each article 11 is pushed along a plate 12 by a pair of plates 16, 17 to an approach platform 52 of the weighing platform 38, one or more endless conveyer belts 37 being arranged to support the article during its movement over the platforms 52, 38. Each plate 17 is slidably mounted in a bracket 22 extending from the conveyer 14 and is urged by a pivoted cam follower 31, 32 mounted on the bracket 22 to move against the bias of a spring 23 away from its associated plate 16 when the cam follower 31, 32 engages a cam 34 mounted above the approach platform 52 on a guide 15 of the conveyer 14. The belt or belts 37 are driven slightly quicker than the conveyer 14 so that when the article is on the approach platform 52 and the plate 17 is moved by the cam arrangement away from the plate 16 the article is accelerated away from the plate 16 so that it is out of contact with both its associated plates 16, 17 at the weighing platform 38. After weighing, each article is transferred to a support 54 at which it is re-engaged by its associated plates 16, 17. The belt or belts 37 are trained over rollers 39, 41, 42 which are arranged to provide a dead-plate 53 between the approach and weighing platforms 52, 38, the belt or belts 37 being driven by a roller 44 and acted upon by a nip roller 47.
