Abstract

117,916. Moseley, J. F., and M'Cardell, E. June 9, 1917. Insecticides.-Consists in the incorporation of tetrachlorethane or other halogen-substituted hydrocarbon with an alkali salt of a fatty acid and diluted with naphthalene, to obtain a product miscible with water, or with powder (e.g. diatomaceous earths) to form a dusting-medium. The alkali salts of the elements of the boron group, such as borates and salts of aluminium and thallium, or of the silicon group such as silicates and salts of tin and lead, e.g. salts of metastannic acid, may be incorporated in the halogensubstituted hydrocarbon as solvents and to add to the divisibility and appearance of the insecticide. Oil of rosemary or other essential oil, or aromatic oils, or products of plants, may be employed to disguise the odour of the hydrocarbon if desired, and will increase the antiseptic properties of the product; it is preferably added to the tetrachlorethane mixture before the latter is added to the emulsifier. Examples of three typical preparations, with proportions, are given.
