Abstract

1,172,567. Making bearings; welding; breaking. W. SCHAEFFLER, and G. SCHAEFFLER, [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER OHG]. 1 March, 1967 [1 April, 1966], No. 9738/67. Headings B3A, B3E and B3R. [Also in Division F2] A method of making bearing members comprises welding parts together by high energy beam welding. The bearing member is initially made in one piece and split apart or the parts initially made separately. In Fig. 2 a weld seam joining a flange 11 to a race 9 opens into a recess to avoid deformation of the raceway. In Fig. 1 (not shown), a weld seam is between two rows of rollers. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the outer member of a self-aligning bearing is welded by a seam opening into a lubricant groove (18). In Figs. 4-6 (not shown), a roller bearing race is split in an axial plane and joined by a weld (21) which extends only partly through the race.
