Abstract

1,172,077. Treatment chambers. GOSUDARSTVENNY PROEKTNY INSTITUT "GIPROZDRAV". 3 Aug., 1967 [23 Nov., 1966], No. 52487/66. Heading A5R. Apparatus for use in the treatment of a limb, for example an arm or a leg, by increase or reduction of the ambient pressure, comprises an elongate pressure chamber having at one end an opening for receiving the limb to be treated and containing a support for the limb to be treated. Within the opening is mounted a flexible collar which is adapted to exert a localised and direct pressure on an adjacent portion of the limb when the limb is located in the chamber; the support carries a stop against which the limb may bear, is movable in a longitudinal direction with respect to the chamber and is adapted to be held in any one of a plurality of selected positions along the length of the chamber by means of a locking device which is located within the chamber. As illustrated in the drawing, a cylindrical chamber I of transparent material has at one end a flange 3, on which a heating element 17 may be mounted to be located within the chamber, and at the other end a flange 2 which defines an aperture for receiving a limb. Encircled by the aperture is a ring 4 carrying a hollow flexible collar 5 which may be inflated, e.g. by means of flexible bulb 6, thereby to exert on an adjacent portion of the limb a localised and direct pressure which may be regulated by means of a valve 7. Located within the chamber, to be movable longitudinally thereof along guides 10, is a support 8 which includes a stop 9 for holding in place the extremity of the limb. The support is connected to a spring-loaded dog 11 which is adapted to engage a toothed rack 12 attached to the wall of the chamber, the dog and rack forming a locking device whereby the support may be held in any one of a plurality of preset positions along the length of the chamber. The chamber is mounted on a carriage 13 at one end of which is a device 14 for raising or lowering the one end of the chamber as desired. The pressure in the chamber may be increased or reduced by means of an electrically driven pump 15, gauge 18 indicating the ambient pressure within the chamber. The patient may be secured in position by means of straps 16.
