[Also in Divisions C3 and D1] Novel compounds of Formula I in which R<SP>1</SP> is H or -CH 2 OH; R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> each represents H or alkyl and n is an integer are prepared by reacting a compound of Formula II with glutaraldehyde in basic aqueous solution (a) in a molar ratio of 2: 1 or more for compounds where n is 1 or (b) in a molar ratio of less than 2: 1 for polymeric condensates where n is greater than 1.
