Abstract

1,166,836. Slab casting apparatus. SPIROLL CORP. Ltd. 27 July, 1967 [5 Aug., 1966], No. 35186/66. Heading B5A. Apparatus for casting slabs, preferably of concrete, comprises a bed 12, guide means 13 for a material dispensing machine which also includes side plates 10 and stationary removable soffit edge forms 22 which engage the walls 10 and are held in place by the machine as it passes thereover. The soffit edge forms 22 may be fixed to the bed 12 with adhesive or may comprise an elevated portion 27 engaging with a groove 28 on the base of the side portions 10, the soffit edge forms being maintained in position by spring devices 32 mounted on the slab 10. A groove may be formed in the base of the slab using a triangular member 52 held in place by a wheel 54 mounted on the dispensing machine. The bed may be covered with a liner 61 of plastic or rubber, the soffit edge forms being disposed above this layer. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) material is cast only against the sides of the soffit edge forms which are taller and the side plates 10 are connected to horizontal wheels rotating about a vertical axis, which engage the outer edge of the soffit edge forms.
