Abstract

1,166,811. Fluid-pressure brakes. GIRLING Ltd. 8 Feb., 1967, No. 46/66. Heading F2F. In a brake control valve mounting structure the body 2 of a brake control valve is mounted on a sprung part of the road vehicle and a lever 3 and an arm 4 are jointly pivoted at 5 to a lug 1 on the body 2 of the brake control valve, a spring 13 being provided to act between the arm 4 and the lever 3 and means for adjusting the loading of the spring. A link 17 is provided at the other end of the arm 4 and is connected to the differential housing or other unsprung part of the vehicle. Any increase in the vehicle loading will cause the arm 4 to pivot clockwise to compress the spring 13 thereby to load the lever 3 which in turn acts on a piston-rod 6 of the control valve. A nut 16 may be adjusted to take up lost-motion and to apply any desired preloading to the valve. Alternative holes 7 enable different lever arm lengths to be selected in order to adjust the loading applied to the valve for a given loading of the spring 13. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the link 17 is replaced by a screw threaded adjuster member to constitute a link on variable effective lengths. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the spring member is enclosed in a telescopic guide tube.
