Abstract

Oct. 17, 1917 Fire-bars and grates.-Hollow firebars are formed of a number of weldless circular tubes a, Fig. 4, each of which is compressed by any suitable means to the section shown at b, c, except at the ends f, Fig. 2, which are left circular. The compression causes the top or burning surface of the tube to be thickened, as at c<1>. This surface mav be further thickened by welding on additional material. The tube is next bent or folded to and fro as shown at e<1>, e<2> to form a number of fire-bars, the bent ends of which are staggered in relation to each other so that the bars may be brought close together. The free ends f of the tubes are provided with screw sleeves g to attach them either to the water inlet and outlet tubes h<1>, h<2>, or to one another by means of bends k. The bars are supported in the centre by a plate o having suitable recesses on its upper edge.
