Abstract

1,157,378. Saponified copolymer of vinyl acetate and acrylamide. DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO K.K. 17 Nov., 1967, No. 52479/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] A sizing agent for textile fibres consists of a partially saponified copolymer of vinyl acetate and acrylamide. In Example 1 acrylamide and vinyl acetate are copolymerized in the presence of azobis isobutyronitrile and methanol and the copolymer is saponified with sodium methylate. In Example 3 acetic acid is used in the polymerization. Sizing baths comprising the copolymer, carboxymethyl cellulose, corn starch, wax emulsion, a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, colloidal silica, saponified mineral oil, a mixture of japan wax, hardened oil and a nonionic surface active agent, silicone oil, potato starch and water were made up.
