Abstract

1,154,750. Textile treating apparatus. TURBO MACHINE CO. 14 Nov., 1967 [26 Nov., 1966], No. 53065/66. Heading D1L. Textile articles to be dyed and heat-treated are loaded on to a carriage which is moved around a'closed rectangular path and during said path moved into a treatment chamber for dyeing and subsequently through a heat-treatment chamber during which the articles are subjected to at least two periods of heattreatment, for example drying the total period spent in the heat-treatment chamber being longer than the period spent in the treatment chamber. Textile articles, for example ladies stockings, are loaded on individual formers on a carriage. The carriage is mounted for movement along a rectangular closed path 22, along the longitudinal portions 13a, 13b on rollers running on vertical tracks, and along the transverse portions 13c, 13d on pads moving in guide channels. The path 22 includes a first station comprising a dyeing and setting chamber 11. This chamber has a door 16 moveable horizontally from a closed to an open position, and on which is mounted a part of the track of portion 13a, this being aligned with those parts on either side of it when the door is in the open position. When a carriage has been moved onto the track of the door 16 it is aligned by the carriage wheels 28 engaging depressions in the track. The carriages and door 16 are all operated by a series of pneumatic, hydraulic or electrically operable push rods. On leaving the dyeing station the carriage is moved into a second chamber 12 wherein it is subjected to at least two periods of heat treatment, e.g. for drying. The chamber 12 has an entry and exit each of which has a door 18, 19, which doors are open or closed when door 16 is open or closed. In a preferred embodiment six carriages are mounted for simultaneous movement around the closed rectangular path. Referring now to Fig. 5; in Fig. 5A it is assumed that carriage II has just moved out of the dyeing chamber 11. Thus doors 18, 19 are also opened. Carriage I is ready loaded and carriage VI has completed its cycle and been unloaded. Carriages I, II and III and IV, V and VI are moved along the longitudinal portions 13a, 13b of the path to the positions shown in 5B. Carriage I now aligned on the track port of door 16. Door 16 is now moved to the closed position to place carriage I in dyeing chamber 11: simultaneously carriages III and VI are moved along the transverse portions 13b, 13c of the path and doors 18 and 19 are shut. Dyeing and drying now take place in the positions shown in 5C whilst carriage VI is reloaded. At the completion of this stage door 16 opens retracting carriage I from the dyeing chamber and simultaneously doors 18 and 19 open, this positioning the carriage as in 5D which is the same relatively as in 5A. The whole cycle is then repeated. From this it will be seen that each carriage remains in the drying chamber whilst three carriages pass through the dyeing chamber. Preferably the dyeing is carried out in an atmosphere of steam at super-atmospheric pressure and a temperature above 212‹F with the dyestuff circulated by spraying or blowing in with the steam. If desired dyeing can be followed by rinsing. Drying is effected using heated air. If desired the length of time in the drying chamber 12 need only be twice that spent in dyeing chamber 11. The textile materials are preferably "thermoplastic synthetic yarns'' as defined in the specification.
