Abstract

1,154,308. Honing. P. NAGEL. 4 March, 1967, No. 10358/67. Heading B3D. An adjustable honing tool for bores comprises segmental cups radially guided relatively to a tool body which is connected to a hollow drive rod of a honing machine, said segmental cups being adapted to carry a honing lining and being radially outwardly displaceable by a multiple cone type spreader axially guided on the tool body and acted upon by a presser rod guided in the drive rod of the honing machine, said tool body having a rectangular cross-section in the region of the segmental cups, and carrying two segmental cups each substantially enclosing one half of the tool body, said segmental cups also being recessed to correspond to the rectangular cross-section and being directly radially displaceable, whilst the multiple cone type spreader axially guided in a longitudinal bore of the tool body presses against a base surface of the guide recesses of the segmental cups by means of two adjusting bars radially guided in two longitudinal slots in the tool body. Thin-walled cup portions 29 carrying honing linings 30 are secured by screws 31 to segmental cups 3. 4; locating pins 32 are provided. The cups 3, 4 are mounted on a square portion 2 of the tool body, and are restrained axially by a shoulder 8 on the head 1 of the tool body and by lugs 9 projecting from the free end of the tool body and engaging recesses in the cups. An expander 14 axially movable in a bore 13 in the tool body has cylindrical portions 15, 16 and cones 17, 18 co-operating with inclines 19, 20 on adjusting bars 22, 23 radially displaceable in slots 21 in the square portion 2 and bearing against the cups 3, 4. The tool is collapsed by springs 12. The expander is operated by a pin 25 in the head 1 of the tool body; a return spring 26 is supported by a disc 28 retained by a spring ring 27.
