Abstract

1,154,063. Bending; straightening; shearing. MAVILOR-MANUFACTURE DE VILEBREQUINS DE LORETTE. 11 Oct., 1966 [29 Oct., 1965], No. 45497/66. Headings B3E and B3W. An apparatus for shaping reinforcing irons for concrete comprises feed rollers 3, 4 to draw wire f from a supply to straightening and guiding rollers 22-26, 30, 31, 35, 36, a measuring roller 42 and a bending station 66 where the wire is bent by a controlled amount to form a shaped iron which is thereafter severed from the wire supply by shears 84, 88. The feed rollers 3, 4 are notched to feed the wire without slipping and are geared together to rotate at the same speed. The roller 4 is mounted on a shaft (9), Fig. 2 (not shown), which is pivotally mounted (9a) in order that the roller 4 can be moved relative to the roller 3 for different sizes of wire. The straightening rollers 22-26 are mounted in a unit 20 and the spacing between them adjustable by screw means (34), Fig. 6 (not shown). The unit 20 is pivotally mounted on an axis (20f) parallel to the direction of feed of the wire so that straightening rollers with two grooves can be aligned with the feed rollers 3, 4 when a pair of parallel wires are fed to the bending station. The rollers 30, 31, 35, 36 serve to guide the wire and effect a final straightening. The wire is then fed over a free rotatable roller 41 with which the measuring roller 42 cooperates. The wheel 42 is biased against the wire by an hydraulic jack (45), Fig. 9 (not shown). The wheel 42 is mounted on a shaft (49) which carries a pinion (50) engaging a toothed wheel (51) for rotation of a shaft (44). Keyed to the latter is a pinion (52) which meshes with a rack rod (53), Fig. 8 (not shown). The rack rod (53) is mounted for sliding in a cylindrical body (54). Micro-switches (53a), (53b) are mounted on the rack. The micro-switch (53a) co-operates with tripping screws (54b), preferably six, mounted in the bottom of the body (54). The six screws correspond to the six possible phases in the bending of the irons (described in detail). The micro-switch (53b) co-operates with an adjustable tripping stop 54c which serves to stop the feed rollers after the predetermined length has been measured by the roller 42 which is connected to the rack 53. After the measuring roller, the wire is fed into the bending mechanism which comprises a roller 70a mounted for free rotation on a lever 69 mounted for pivotal movement about a shaft (67), Fig. 14 (not shown). A former plate 72 is fixed to the frame of the apparatus and carries a bearing face 72a. The former plate 72 may be replaced by another former plate with a bearing face 72a of different radius. Keyed on to the shaft 67 is an arm 75 which is articulated to the piston of an hydraulic jack 76. Also mounted on the shaft 67 is a pinion (68) with a chain (57), Fig. 8 (not shown), with a toothed wheel (56) on a shaft (55). A pinion (58) is fixed on the shaft (55) and co-operates with a rack rod (59) slidable in a cylindrical body (60). The rack rod 59 has micro-switches (59a), (59b) which co-operate with tripping screws (60b), (60c) to control the amount of bending (described in detail). The rack rods (53), (59) are keyed together for angular rotation by gearing (61), (62). Mounted between the bending station and the measuring roller is the wire shearing mechanism. The shearing mechanism comprises a fixed blade 88 which co-operates with a blade 84. The blade 84 is mounted on a plate 83 which is pivotable about a shaft 85. Movement of the blade is effected by a cam 82 on an arm 79 which is pivoted about a shaft 81 by a hydraulic jack 80. The cam 82 co-operates over half its thickness against the plate 83, see Fig. 21 (not shown), the other half thickness having a projecting arm 82b with a protrusion in an aperture in the blade to enable the blade 84 to be moved out of engagement with blade 88 after the shearing. A finger 83a on the plate 83 trips an arm 89a of a counter 89 after each shear. The plate 83 has an extension arm 83b which is connected through a lever linkage to a rod 96 which is disposed perpendicular to the axes of travel of the wire and is moved after each shearing process to eject the wire from between the blades. In the preferred embodiments there are six length-advancing and bending phases and one shearing to form a concrete reinforcing iron having a closed frame shape, Fig. 25 (not shown .
