Abstract
1,152,833. Telemetering. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 26, 1967 [April 27, 1966], No.18446/66. Heading G1N. In apparatus for measuring a variable on a rotating body, power from a crystal oscillator mounted on a non-rotating part is transferred through a tuned transformer to provide an A. C. input for a measuring bridge 20 on the rotating body and the output of the bridge is connected into a frequency modulated A.C. and transferred through a capacitive coupling 24 to an indicating system on the non-rotating part. In the embodiment described with reference to Fig.1, one of the resistances in bridge 20 is a strain gauge. In another arrangement, described with reference to Fig.2 (not shown), eight bridges (20) each contain a temperature measuring resistance and their outputs are connected to the capacitive coupling (24) via a time division multiplex system comprising three oscillators of different frequencies on the non-rotating part, connected via a sequence switch (34) and a capacitive coupling (37) to a scanner switch (30) on the rotating part. The scanner switch may be between the bridges and a common voltage-to-frequency converter, or each bridge may have its own converter in which case the scanner switch is between the converters and the capacitive coupling (24). Eight indicators each show the value of temperature last measured by their respective bridges. An over-ride control may be provided to enable a bridge to be selected for continuous monitoring. Alarms may be provided.
