Abstract

1,152,702. D.C. amplifiers. FIELDEN ELECTRONICS Ltd. 27 May, 1966 [15 June, 1965], No. 25195/65. Heading H3T. In a D.C. amplifier having a differential amplifier 21, 22; 32, 33, a first switching means 40 periodically shorts the input 28, 29 of the amplifier to zero for a minor part of the switching period and a second switching means 41 operating simultaneously with the first switching means connects the output of the amplifier to a feedback circuit 42-44 which operates to reduce the output substantially to zero when the input is shorted, and the feedback circuit includes a storage means 43, which maintains this level of feedback during the intervals when the feedback circuit is disconnected from the output. The feedback circuit stabilizes the amplifier against drift by having a short time constant R-C network 42, 43 which charges from the output of the amplifier when switch 41 is closed, the capacitor 43 and resistor 44 providing a long time constant circuit so that the feedback is maintained constant when the switch 41 is opened. In an alternative amplifier (Fig. 1, not shown), the feedback circuit includes a differential amplifier (9) which controls a heater element (5) associated with a temperature-sensitive resistor (4) connected so as to provide the above control of the output.
