Abstract

1,148,325. Boron carbide. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 27 June, 1966 [31 Aug., 1965], No. 28779/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C7] A filament of, e.g., W or Mo, is coated with a boron carbon compound having 21 to 35% by weight of carbon by heating the filament in a mixture of e.g. methane, boron trichloride and hydrogen. The filament is stretched by springs, during coating, and heated by passing a current therethrough. The thickness of the coating is greater than that of the filament.
