Abstract

1,141,563. Wire tensioning device, creels. GODDERIDGE & CIE. 13 July, 1967 [13 July, 1966], No. 32364/67. Headings D1J and D1T. A distributor for feeding wires 7 to a stranding machine (not shown) under controlled tension comprises a frame 1 on which is provided a plurality of stations 5 for feeding the stranding machine with wire. Each station 5 is constituted by a spool 6 mounted to rotate on an axle fixed to a cross rail 3 of the frame. Each feeding station is provided with means e.g. belt 16 for braking the spool and all such means are linked to a movable member serving as a common tension generator. As shown the spool brake consists of mounted member 12 pivoted at 13 and carrying a roller 18 for the running wire. A roller 14, which is securable to the member 18 and which has the ends of the brake belt 16 fixed to it, is also pivoted at 13. The remainder of the brake belt passes round a drum 8 mounted on the spool 6. A spring 32 is fixed between the mounted member 12 and sliding rod 22. Thus the tension in the running wire 7 can be varied by moving slide rod 22 which acts via spring 32, pivoted member 12 and roller 18. The position of slide rod 22 can be adjusted by moving tensioning member 24 by screw 25 or adjusting a counter-weight (28) attached to tensioning member 24 by a wire 29, see Fig. 2, not shown. Other feeding stations 5 are mounted on cross rails 3 where indicated by crosses and thus tension changes in all of the running wires can be effected simultaneously.
