Abstract

1,141,052. Automatic circuit breakers; partly electromagnetic switches. TERASAKI DENKI SANGYO K.K. 16 June, 1966 [10 Dec., 1965 (3)], No. 26938/66. Heading H1N. A circuit interrupter with conventional trip means and also utilizing electrodynamic repulsion to separate a movable bridging contact assembly 40 from stationary contacts 28, 28a, (see also Figs. 3B, 3C, 4, not shown), has its movable contact assembly 40 formed as two arms 42, 42a, rotatably disposed in end-to-end relationship on support pins 44, 44a, with contact surfaces 46, 46a, in the same plane when engaging the stationary contacts, and upon development of electrodynamic repulsion the arms 42, 42a, are rotated in opposite directions to break bridging contact with the contacts 28, 28a. Two parallel holder plates 50 have holes 52, 52a, rotatably supporting pins 44, 44a, and one hole 52a is elongated to allow for irregularities of the arms 42, 42a, which are biased together by a spring 62 anchored between pins 56, 56a, on the arms and also providing contact pressure. Pins 56, 56a, are movable in notches defined by shoulders of the plates 50, and have links 64, 64a connected to common pins 66 slidable in guide slots 68 of plates 50. Normal tripping by thermal or electromagnetic means collapses a toggle mechanism 92, 93, and pushes down the plates 50 to separate movable contact assembly 40 from the stationary contacts, keeping the contact surfaces 46, 46a, in the same plane, Fig. 3C (not shown). Normal tripping, subsequent to electrodynamic repulsion, restores arms 42, 42a, to the Fig. 3C position from the Fig. 3A position by engagement of rollers 70, Fig. 2 (not shown), on pins 66 with an insulating abutment 74, and the interrupter is then ready for manual resetting. Conventional arc-extinguishing chambers 76, 76a, are provided. A flexible lead 48 connects contact arms 42, 42a. A common trip rod 124 connects the three operating levers 96 of each mechanism of the three-pole interrupter.
