Abstract

1,135,368. Grinding. OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc. 31 Aug., 1967 [21 Oct., 1966], No. 39929/67. Heading B3D. A chain saw comprises a saw chain 30 driven by a sprocket 26 mounted in a main frame 20, a sharpening member 50 carried by an arm 22 slidably and pivotally mounted on guide means 90 extending parallel to the plane of the saw, and means 142 for moving the arm linearly to engage the sharpening member with the saw and pivotally back and forth across the saw to sharpen the saw and dress the sharpening member. The sharpening member is of arcuate shape and secured to a shoe 72 in dove-tail engagement with the arm. The latter extends through a slot 106, 108 in a cover 40 secured to the main frame and is formed with a bearing 98 slidably mounted on the guide means in the form of a rod 90 extending between brackets 92, 94 on the cover. A spring 102 normally urges the arm so that the sharpening member is disengaged from, and substantially out of the plane of, the saw chain. A handle 142 is provided to permit moving the arm along the rod to engage the sharpening member with the saw chain to a position determined by an adjustable screw 132; the handle also permits oscillation of the sharpening member so that it is dressed by the saw chain. The handle has a splined connection with the arm and can be positioned in operative or inoperative positions.
