Abstract
1,132,167. Laminates. CELLAIR Ltd. 8 Nov., 1965 [23 Nov., 1964; 27 Nov., 1964], Nos. 22066/67 and 22067/67. Heading B5N. An insulating board comprises a panel 1 of foamed or beaded plastics material having laminated to one surface thereof a heat and pressure protective layer 2 comprising at least two spaced substantially planar continuous sheets, the space between which is partitioned. The portioning may be effected by flutes, corrugations or a honeycomb structure. The panel 1 may be of polystyrene bead board, foamed polystyrene, or polyurethane foam, and the layer 2 may be of matted or felted particulate or fibrous material; chipboard, asbestos, or other paper; bituminous felt paper; or mineral fibre, e.g. glass fibre matting; faced on one or both sides with aluminium foil. Preferably the layer 2 is corrugated chipboard paper, or corrugated bituminous felt, the latter material being made by coating a laminate of a corrugated felt layer between two outer felt layers with bitumen. The corrugated felt or paper may be multiply. As shown, the panel 1 has laminated to its other face a reinforcing layer of paper, or textile material, e.g. chipboard paper or paper felt. The board is formed by foaming the material of the panel 1 in a trough and contacting the layers 2, 3 with the still plastic surfaces of the panel 1, the material of the panel then being allowed to cool. The boards may be used as heat and sound insulation in floors or roofs, in which latter case they may have a layer of asphalt or bitumen applied hot to the layer 2. The boards may be wedge-shaped and be treated to be non-inflammable. If the panel is to be formed by sticking a paper layer 2 to the panel 1 by adhesive the paper may be treated with waterglass or size to prevent its shrinking.
