Abstract

1,128,545. Two-part couplings. BELLING & LEE Ltd. 24 May, 1967 [24 May, 1966], No. 23024/66. Heading H2E. An electrical connector comprises a slotted body member 1: of insulating material containing contact members 3, together with mounting; members 6, located upon opposing faces of the body member by interengaging protrusions and recesses formed on said: members, and held against the body member 1 by a retaining member or members 8-extending between the mounting members. These retaining members take the form of metal straps with inturned edges 19, 20 for engagement with the slant faces of dovetail section ribs 9 on the connector body. The end portions 10 of these metal straps are bent aroundribson the mounting members to retain them in position on the body. The mounting members each have a hole 12 to accept a fastening and they may either be arranged to raise the base of the connector body above the level of the panel to which they are attached or support it with its base flush with the panel. Where the body member has been cut across the centre of a contact slot to shorten the body the protrusions on the mounting members fit into the exposed recesses of the contact slot. In another embodiment the retaining member may be an endless-loop of extensible materia placed over the assembly of body member and mounting members by elastic deformation. Alternatively a U-shaped metal strap may be used with its ends bent inwards around one mounting member. In a further embodiment flat metal strips extending between the mounting members to hold them to the body member may lie between raised longitudinal ribs protruding from surfaces of and formed integrally with the body member. The connector is for printed circuit boards and a polarizing key 5 is located in one of the slots in the body in place of a contact member to ensure correct alignment.
