Abstract

[Also in Division C3] The surface of dies used in die.casting metals is conditioned by applying to the surface a water-based composition comprising one or more of polyethylene oxide, poly-propylene oxide and polystyrene. In an example, an aqueous composition containing polystyrene emulsion, polyethylene oxide, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sec. alkyl sulphate and sodium orthophenyl phenate was used when die casting zinc and-with the omission of the cellulosewhen die casting aluminium, by spraying on the hot dies.
