Abstract

1,127,446. Labelling and sealing packages. PURDY-HODGES Ltd. 4 Nov., 1966 [11 Dec., 1965], No. 52709/65. Heading B8F. A printing wheel 27 (Fig. 1) synchronized with the movement of a package 6 applies printing to the package, which subsequently receives a sealing tape in the same machine. In the form illustrated the sealing tape upstands in front of a roller 46 which is pushed aside by a box 6 and applies the tape to the box. A tapeguide 40 pivoted at 37 is linked with lever 43 carrying the roller 46 so that it presses the tape against a fixed knife 53. The tape passes froma reel 32 over rollers 35 and 37 on the lever 43 and on the pivoted tape-guide 40 so that it is drawn from the reel when these are retracted by a spring; a ratchet on a wheel 38 pressing the tape against the roller 37 prevents reverse feed. The tape is held against the guide 40 by a roller 60 biased by a leaf spring. The boxes may be pushed through by hand, pushing before them lugs 16 on a chain (not shown) connected through gearing to drive the printing wheel 27, or alternatively the chain 16 may be powered and may drive the boxes.
