Abstract
In order to increase the transparency to visible light of a heat reflecting filter consisting of a transparent support coated with a single metal layer of e.g. Au, Ag, Cu or Al, a dielectric coating having a refactive index in the range 1.6-3 is deposited on the metal layer. The support may be of glass, quartz or a transparent fused oxidic material; and the dielectric coating may be of lead chloride, titanium dioxide, nickel monoxide, silver chloride, stannic oxide, thorium dioxide, zirconium dioxide or zinc sulphide. The dielectric coating may be applied by vapour deposition or by cathode sputtering.
