An overload release friction slip-coupling, or spring-applied friction brake, for cable or printing-machinery, comprises an output slipdisc 7 clamped against a friction-faced flange 3 of an input member 1 by a number of nested springs 10 adjustably compressed by a screwed nut 12 locked at any required torque slip setting by a screw 13. The output disc 7 may be secured to a gear or sprocket (not shown) by screwing or, as shown, by pins 8.
