Abstract

1,115,861. Roller applicators. C. B. BARCLAY. 19 Jan., 1965 [24 Oct., 1963], No. 42018/63. Heading A4K. [Also in Division B2] A liquid dispenser comprises a body portion 10 adapted to be attached to a liquid container B, and a roller 16 supported at its ends by arms 18, 19, extending from the body portion 10, said body portion having a bore 11 which enables the dispenser to fit over the neck of the container, the bore 11 being terminated by an end wall 12 containing an orifice 13 which permits flow of liquid from the container to the roller. Preferably an elongated trough is provided in the portion 10 and the roller 16 is supported so as to take up liquid from the trough. The body portion 10 may be shaped with a curved recess of substantially the same length and radius as the roller 16 and such that one half to one third of the surface of the roller is covered by the body portion 10. Also the ends of the arms 18, 19 may be curved such that from one third to one half of the roller surface extends beyond the profile of the curved ends of the arms. The roller 16 may consist of a core 26 made of polythene or nylon and an outer layer 27 of polythene foam and has bearing elements 24, 25 which engage in the bores in the arms 18, 19 the arms being of such resilience to enable the bearing elements 24, 25 to be forced between the arms and into the bores. In use the container B may be tipped to cause liquid to flow into the trough 15 and so be picked up by roller 16 or a tube 9 may be fitted, in which case the container may be squeezed to cause liquid to flow up the tube into the trough 15. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,023,517.
