Abstract

1,115,285. Carbonating liquids. BRATBY & HINCHLIFFE Ltd. 9 March, 1967 [17 March, 1966], No. 11635/66. Heading B1C. In a carbonator in which a jet or spray of liquid (e.g. water or fruit juice) is forced into an atmosphere of carbon dioxide, the direction of the jet is variable to vary its contact time with the gas and hence the degree of carbonation of the liquid. As shown the liquid inlet nozzle 37 is carried on a hook-shaped pipe 33 rotatable by a handle 54. Float switches 64, 65 control the pump, and motor 59, 60 to maintain in the tank a predetermined liquid level which may be observed in sight glass 63. There is a safety valve 66, and a gas inlet control valve 70 connected to a pressure sensing connection 67. A controlled escape of gas takes place through bleed outlet 13 and sight glass 17 to ensure that there is no buildup of the air introduced with the liquid.
