Abstract

1,106,329. Teat cups. WESTFALIA SEPARATOR A.G. 23 March, 1967 [29 March, 1966], No. 13655/67. Heading A1M. The liner of a twin cavity teat cup is provided with an inset 1 having a wedgeshaped element the lower end of which is adapted to fill the lower end of the liner and which has at least one bore in a side face by which milk can be removed from the cavity. As shown each side face 9, 10 of the wedge-shaped element is provided with a milk bore 11, 12 which communicates with a central bore 6 extending into an extension 7 of the insert adapted to be connected to the flexible milk hose. Air inlets 16 are provided in the end faces of the insert and extend to atmosphere at points 17 externally of the liner. The arrangement is such that when suction is applied to the outer chamber of the teat cup the inlets 16 are closed and the bores 11, 12 are open but during interruption of the vacuum, the liner collapses to close bores 11, 12 and in collapsing broadens to lift away from inlets 16 thereby admitting air to the inner chamber of the teat cup. The end faces of the element may be curved and the side faces 9, 10 slightly convex. The lower end of the liner is clamped between the insert 1 and the lower rim of the teat cup shell which engages in a groove 2 in the insert.
