Abstract

110,608. Bell, G. G. Oct. 26, 1916. Transmitting pulverulent material by pumping or forcing in a liquid medium.-Coal or other material in small lumps is delivered from the mouth B of a weighing-machine on to a revolving table C from which it is scraped by adjustable plates D at a predetermined uniform rate and falls into a tank A containing water or other liquid. The water and coal are drawn from the tank A through either of the pipes G, G<1> by a pump F and forced through the pipe J to the tank K which is provided with perforated vertical pipes L into which the water percolates. These pipes are connected to a return pipe J' through which the water is forced back to the tank A by a pump M. The discharge from the pipe J<1> is regulated by a valve J<4>, the amount of opening of which is controlled by the float J<5>. An auxiliary pump 0 is provided to prevent any reduction of the rate of flow in the pipe J, and may be brought into operation automatically. The pipe J may deliver through a distributing mouthpiece J<2>, Fig. 2, on to a jigging screen Q which delivers the coal into a shoot R and the water on to a board S. A second jigging screen Q<1> is used to separate the remaining fine coal from the water which has passed through the first.
