Abstract

The invention comprises articles made from a polyamide composition containing 1-50% of glass fibres, the density of the composition being at least 98% of the theoretical value calculated from the densities of the components. Such articles may be obtained by compressing a preformed article at a temperature above 50 DEG C. but below the melting point of the polyamide. Alternatively a vacuum may be applied to the molten polyamide composition before forming. Polyamides specified include polycaprolactam having a relative viscosity of at least 3. Many additives are specified which may be introduced with or separately from the glass fibres. The composition may be exposed to a vacuum of 0.01-200 mm. Hg and then injection moulded or extruded through a single or multiple screw extruder. An extruded filament may be chopped into granules suitable for further moulding or the article may be moulded directly. Many uses are specified for the treated compositions.
