Abstract

1,086,170. Hydraulically operated grabs. POCLAIN. Feb. 10, 1966 [April 8, 1965], No. 5867/66. Heading B8H. The jaws 1, 1<SP>1</SP> of a grab are opened and closed by hydraulic rams 12 which are housed within the jaws and pivoted to the jaws near their tips at 14 and to a supporting frame 9 at 13. The grab is suspended from a hook 16 by a rotary coupling 15. The outer walls 4 of the jaws are readily detachable to provide access to the rams. The pivot axes of the rams may be below the pivot axes of the jaws. This would cause the jaws to open when the rams were extended instead of closing as in the illustrated embodiment.
