Abstract
1,070,984. Feeding bottles. PET MILK CO. Dec. 10, 1963 [Jan. 4, 1963], No. 48682/63. Heading A5X. [Also in Division B8] A feeding teat and an attachment ring are supplied in a sterilised package for attachment to the end of a container holding pre-packed food. The container is preferably a sealed, cylindrical tin and the retaining ring is of such a shape as to hold the teat on to one end of it. The teat 11, Fig. 2, is formed with the usual bulbous end 32 and, at the other end, has a reduced neck 36 between a flange 35 and a rounded portion 34. This neck is engaged by the rolled-over edge 41, Fig. 3, of a central aperture in the attachment member 12 and this is provided with a depending lip 43 carrying, internally, a continuous rib 44 and a number of inwardly directed projections 45. For storage, the assembly of the teat and attachment ring is sterilised and sealed in an easily ruptured cover, made of transparent plastic material such as polypropylene, and formed as a conical upper portion (54) sealed around its free edges to a disc-shaped lower portion (55). The outer surface of the tin of food is then sterilised and the nipple assembly is partially forced over its end and retained by shrinking a cellulose band around it. When the contents are required for use the nipple assembly is removed from the tin and taken from its protective cover, the tin (53), Fig. 9, is punctured with a can-opener, at (63), and the retaining ring, together with the teat, is pressed down on to the tin until its internal rib 44 engages behind the rim (59) on the tin. The attachment ring is preferably made of transparent or translucent material so that it can carry graduation marks which will indicate the residual contents of the tin when the latter is laid in a horizontal position. In a modified form the lower flange portion 35 is made sufficiently wide to lie under an orifice in the attachment ring member so as to act as a non-return valve and admit air to the container as the contents are withdrawn.
