Abstract
1,068,180. Valves. SERTEC SOCIETE D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES TECHNIQUES. Oct. 30, 1963, No. 42919/63. Heading F2V. A rotary plug in a body bore has sealing means consisting of an annular projection 9, Fig. 3, integral with a sleeve 6 ; the seal, which is of a plastic elastomeric material, is housed in a recess in a body part 2. The latter may be plain and the seal is then retained by an annular element. The outer end of the seal is formed with an enlarged portion 7, Fig. 4, which produces an initial compression of the sleeve on assembly, the contact between the projection 9, Fig. 3, and the moving closing member 1 being enhanced by fluid pressure in the recess further distorting the seal. The closure member may be provided with further seals 21, 23, and the sleeve may be undercut inwardly of the projection. The seal holds the closure member out of contact with the body. In another form the seal is formed by an " O " ring (30), Fig. 6 (not shown), backed by a metallic or plastic sleeve (31) and retained in a port recess by an indented-annular clement (34). The port may be plain instead of recessed, and the sleeve 31 may be spring-loaded.
