Abstract

1,066,229. Building panels. P. SCHMALZHAF. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 23, 1963], No. 30755/ 64. Heading E1B. A wall panel having a peripheral groove, tongue or rebate for attachment to a post or to an adjacent panel comprises opposed metallic or plastics shells 1, 1' mechanically interconnected, at least around the periphery, by a rigid insulating substance 8, e.g. a hard plastics, there being provided a seal 7 of a non- setting composition to prevent the ingress of moisture to the panel interior without allowing transmission of heat between the shells. The panel interior shown has a filler 2 of foam plastics. In a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown) the filler protrudes into the tongue, and the rigid insulating substance comprises a U-section channel (59) enclosing said tongue. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) a tongue protrudes from a wide V-groove in the panel edge. In other embodiments, shells 9, 9', Fig. 2, enclosing a filler 10 of glass or mineral wool are peripherally interconnected by a rigid insulating substance 11, e.g. of hard foamed plastics and by a sealing composition 7, the substance 11 being shaped to provide a rebate, or alternatively to provide a tongue or groove (Figs. 5 or 3, not shown). In further embodiments. Figs. 6-9 (not shown), the filler itself is mechanically strong and extends to the panel periphery to define a rebate enclosed by the bent-over edges of the shells, these edges being separated by the non-setting sealing composition (7).
