Abstract

1,064,001. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems; speed regulators. FICHTEL & SACHS A. G. Jan. 27, 1965 [Jan. 30, 1964], No. 3558/65. Headings G3B and G3P. A speed control system for an I. C. engine comprises a fluid pressure governor pump 33 mountable as a unit on an engine shaft and adapted to communicate via a pipe 11 with a servomotor 12 controlling the position of a valve 19 located in a suction port 20 of the engine. The governor of Fig. 1 comprises a polygonal hub 3 carrying a rotor 1 working in a chamber 5 supplied via ports 6 from a chamber 7 supplied in turn from a resilient storage container 9 through ports 10. The hub 3 is mounted on the cam- or crankshaft and at a predetermined engine speed the pressure generated by the rotor moves a diaphragm 15 against a spring 17 to close the valve. In the alternative form of governor shown in Fig. 3, the hub 23 is formed with cylinders 24 within which are located pistons 25 which move out under centrifugal force to increase the pressure in pipe 11. The need for return springs for these pistons is obviated by the provision of spring 17 which acts on the pistons via the fluid link in pipe 11 and chamber 28. The pistons may be replaced by flyweights acting on diaphragms.
