Abstract

1,060,993. Hypodermic syringes. Z. & W. MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Feb. 27, 1964, No. 8268/64. Heading A5R. A needleless hypodermic injector has a detachable medicament container 91, a plunger 38' removable from the instrument rearwardly through a hollow actuating piston, a plunger head 98 removably connected to the plunger assembly by an adapter (87,87') and a shoulder (99) limiting retraction of the plunger head within the container. An auxiliary syringe 80 for recharging the medicament container comprises a plunger 81 and a barrel which is threaded to the plunger 38'. The plunger 38' has an axial bore 39 and is normally threaded to the hollow piston 14. The adapter which is in two parts (87, 87') connects the plunger 38' and the plunger head 98, an extension (100, 101) of the plunger head being retained in an axial bore (88, 88') of the adapter by a snap ring (107). The plunger head is slidable in the medicament container 91, rearward movement being limited by the shoulder (99). A resilient cap 93 defines a conical forward end of the container and has a discharge aperture 95. The medicament container is recharged from the auxiliary syringe, medicament flowing through the axial bore 39 of the plunger, a one-way ball valve (43), the bore of the adapter and bores (103, 104) in the plunger head. for replenishing the auxiliary syringe, the syringe and the plunger, which is detached from the hollow piston and the plunger head, are drawn rearwardly from the instrument, the plunger head remaining in the medicament container. Clearances (110, 113) are left between the plunger head and both the adapter and the plunger to permit some variation in the dimensions of the parts. The instrument has an operating mechanism similar to that disclosed in Specification 879, 427.
