Abstract

A dye composition of use in the treatment of human hair comprises an azo dye and an oxidising agent which can be used to decolourise human hair and which is a stronger such agent than hydrogen peroxide. The preferred oxidising agent is an alkali metal per salt, e.g. sodium or potassium per sulphate. The per salt is preferably used in admixture with magnesium carbonate. The dye composition is conveniently used as a solution in aqueous hydrogen peroxide. The azo dye may be a disperse, metal complex, soluble or reactive azo dye, and numerous examples are given.
