Abstract

[Also in Division D1] A germicidal and bleaching preparation comprises a germicidal compound which release chlorine on contact with water e.g. 1,3- dichloro-5:5-dimethyl hydantoin and an effervescing agent e.g. tartaric or adipic acid and sodium bicarbonate. The germicidal agent may be enclosed within a water-soluble envelope constituted by the effervescing agent or a sachet of water-soluble synthetic resin e.g. polyvinyl alcohol. The composition may be in tablet form containing binders such as acacia, magnesium stearate or stearic acid.
