[Also in Divisions E1 and F4] An insulating stud for use in insulating a floor, wall or ceiling of, e.g. a cold storage room, comprises a web formed from one or more lengths of a fibrous, heat insulating material, e.g. glass wool board, bonded along each edge to a basically channel-sectioned capping member of, e.g. extruded aluminium. The capping member may be of simple channel section, or of top-hat or #-section, and the method of bonding to the web comprises dipping the respective web edge in hot asphalt, draining briefly, inverting dipped edge, inserting dipped edge into channel of capping member, repeating steps for the other capping member, clamping the three members together, re-heating to cause the asphalt to flow again and finally cooling the stud to cause the asphalt to bond the web to the capping members.
