Abstract
1,051,950. Wells &c. KATO SEISAKUSHO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Oct. 28, 1964 [Nov. 18, 1963], No. 43900/64. Heading E1F. Apparatus for draining earth by inserting a band 4 of flexible, porous, material such as cardboard vertically into the earth comprises a driving tube 1 having a passage 6 for the band, packing 16, 16a in the bore adapted to engage the band and divide the bore into upper and lower portions, and means 18 to supply compressed air to the lower part 14 of the bore to prevent infiltration of water into the bore. The compressed air is supplied to the top of the tube by a flexible pipe and a device is mounted on the tube for feeding the band downwardly relative to the tube as the tube is withdrawn from the earth. The lower end of the part 14 may comprise a downwardly facing recess adapted to contain sand which assists in the prevention of infiltration of water into the bore.
