Abstract

1,051,872. Inverting. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. March 6, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1961], No. 43882/61. Heading H2F. An inverter has two or more circuits in parallel across the D.C. supply, each circuit including two series thyristors (or thyratrons) such as SCR1 and SCR2. Only one thyristor conducts at a time so that each has a longer recovery time than in a circuit in which two thyristors conduct alternately. In a modification (Fig. 7, not shown), all four chokes L 1 , L 2 , L 3 , L 4 are coupled. In a circuit with three pairs of thyristors (Fig. 9, not shown), all six chokes are coupled and each thyristor conducts for one-sixth of each cycle. A further embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown), has four pairs of thyristors. In this case, chokes 1 to 4 are mutually coupled and so are chokes 5 to 8, but the two groups are not coupled. In every case the output is taken from a transformer having a primary winding in series with each thyristor. Waveforms are shown.
