Abstract

1,051,869. Photographic silver halide materials. AGFA A. G. April 27, 1964 [April 27, 1963], No.17322/64. Heading G2C. [Also in Division C2] A photographic material comprises a support coated with hydrophilic water-permeable colloid layers, including a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and a baryta layer, at least one of said colloid layers containing a compound having a 5- or 6-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring having an esterified carboxy or thiocarboxyl group attached either to a cyclic nitrogen atom or via oxygen or sulphur to a cyclic carbon adjacent to a cyclic nitrogen atom so that in the presence of alkaline developer the esterified carboxyl or thiocarboxyl group is split off and the heterocyclic product reacts with soluble silver salts preventing the formation of yellow fog. Heterocyclic compounds specified are those derived from oxazole, triazole, tetrazole, imidazoline, pyrimidine, dihydropyrimidine, benzthiazole, benzoxazole, benzimidazole, benztriazole, quinoline, quinazoline, quinoxaline, benzdiazoindolizine, tetrazaindene and purine and in particular compounds of the general formula wherein Y is S, NH or a covalent bond, X 2 is S or 0, n is 0 to 10, and R 1 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, or of the general formula: - wherein R 2 is alkyl of 1-18 carbons, cycloalkyl or carboxyalkyl, X 1 is S, NH or a covalent bond, X 2 is S, NH, N-alkyl, N-alkenyl or c#<SP>alkyl</SP> alkyl , Z is 0 or S and R 1 is as above.
