Abstract
1,051,820. Windscreen wipers. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Nov. 19, 1965 [Nov. 20, 1964], No. 49136/65. Heading A4F. In a windscreen wiper installation in which a wiper blade is oscillated by a motor via a rotary crank, a connecting rod, and a rocker arm having a pin engaging a slot in the connecting rod, a pawl is provided on the connecting rod for securing the pin against displacement in the slot, and the pawl is displaceable by means of a stop member into a position for releasing the pin whereby the wiper may be temporarily stopped whilst the motor continues to run. The temporary stopping may be effected periodically to produce an intermittent wiper action, or it may occur during the switching on and off of the wiper installation to cause one of two or more wipers with overlapping wiping zones to start later and to stop earlier so as to prevent collision of the wipers in the common overlap zone. In the embodiment illustrated an electric motor 2 drives through a worm drive 3, a crank 4 articulated by connecting rods 5, 7, respectively, to rocker arms 6, 8 operating wiper blades 15, 16 (not shown). The rocker arm 8 carries a pin 22 engaging in a slot 21 in the connecting rod 7 so that on starting the motor 2 the wiper blade 16 operated by the arm 8 remains stationary whilst the wiper blade 15 moves to its inner reversing position. During this movement the connecting rod 7 moves relatively to the pin 22 until the latter is engaged behind a coupling pawl 23 carried by the rod 7, further movement of the latter actuating the arm 8 and the wiper blade 16. On opening the manual switch 43 (Fig. 4, not shown) controlling the wiper motor 2, an electromagnet 32 is de-energized to permit a stop pin 33 to be spring pressed into the path of the pawl 23 to release the latter from the pin 22. The wiper blade 16 is then halted in its counter-position and a switch 34 in the motor circuit is opened by the pin 22. After a further half revolution of the crank 4 the blade 15 reaches its outer position and a parking switch 44 (not shown) embodied in the worm drive 3 is opened to stop the motor 2.
